It’s been strange, folks. I was going to talk about reading slumps in today’s Wrap-Up, but then realized that I haven’t been in a reading slump. I’ve just been reading differently, but not any less than normal.
Instead of the thick novels I love in winter, I’ve been reading my way through the stack of comics hubz gave me a few weeks ago. That’s not to say that I don’t think comics are reading (puh-leaze), they just feel different. More fast-paced. Less reading and more ogling of art. For me, it’s a completely different experience, especially as I only started reading comics a few years ago (at the suggestion of the aforementioned hubz).
Fables follows the surviving members of the fairy tale world after they’ve been exiled from their world into ours. It’s super fun to watch the Beauty and the Beast discuss marriage counseling or follow Snow White as she attempts to manage the clandestine community of “fables.”
Planetary was much more dense, the art much more striking. It follows the members of “Planetary,” a secret organization dedicated to researching the Earth’s mysteries. I’ll have to re-read it to understand everything that was going on there, because there was a lot. Truly amazing though.
I’ll have pairings up for both of these soon, but until then, I want to hear from you. Do you read comics? Which ones are your favorites?
