Bout of Books 8.0 #Pairathon Challenge! — Drink Wine, Win Books

No more entries allowed for #Pairathon challenge. It’s CLOSED folks. :D Thanks for joining. Will have winners announced and emailed by tomorrow evening. Continue to join in the pairing fun by using the hashtag #Pairathon! Thanks!

Listen up folks, I’m giving you an excuse to DRINK WINE, READ BOOKS, WIN BOOKS.

Groovy, huh?

Make sure to read through this whole post.

The premise is simple. I want to see what you’re out there reading and drinking or eating during Bout of Books. I’m nosy. But I also think that books and wine/food/tea/coffee/beer are better when enjoyed together. So let’s share?

Share your pairing and you’ll be entered to win a $50 gift certificate to Amazon (or comparable bookstore of your choice) to buy books!

The prize is open to ALL participants who submit their photos TODAY. 24 hours and then we’re done. Global baby. Winner will be chosen randomly. And, at the end of the week, I’ll share some of my favorites on the blog! So no money there, but instant bragging rights.

(We’re all closed for entries for the challenge!)

There are multiple ways to enter:

  • Post a comment or photo about your pairing (books with wine/food/soda/beer/etc) and tag it with the hashtag #Pairathon on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, OR
  • Leave a comment on this post describing what you’re pairing with your books

Rules to win:

  • Leave  a comment on this blog post with your pairing or the link to where you posted it on social media to be entered into the contest.
  • Only participants in Bout of Books 8.0 will be eligible to win a prize (if you haven’t signed up already, do so here).
  • You only have 24 hours to complete this challenge to be considered for a prize (closes at midnight CST on Monday August 19).
  • If you’re drinking wine or another alcoholic beverage as a pairing, you must be 21 to enter or 18 depending on the country where you reside. Just follow the laws of your country! :D

Though we can certainly keep the #Pairathon going all week, only those who participate in the first day are eligible to win the prize.  If you’re really in the pairing spirit, consider swinging by and joining me and Amanda for a #Pairathon Twitter party at 8 PM CST! Basically, ANOTHER excuse to get your Monday drinking in :D

To recap, pair something today. Tell me what you’re doing. Be legal. Be a Bout of Books participant. Oh. And HAVE FUN! See you out there #pairathon-ers!

Have questions? Poke me on Twitter or Facebook and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

I like to drink cold milk teas (which are very popular in my country) when the weather is hot, or hot chocolate for rainy days like today! :)
    Kim @ Divergent Gryffindor

    • Nikki Steele

I love hot chocolate on rainy days! Great pairing!

      • Lyssa

        ( I hope I did this right)
I will be getting my 64 ounces of sugar free non-carbonated drinks on. With variation between water, tea, and Crystal Light while reading If I Stay and Prince of Denial

        • Nikki Steele

Yep, I got the pairing! Thanks for joining!

  • Katherine Nabity

The Glorious Deception: The Double Life of William Robinson, aka Chung Ling Soo, the “Marvelous Chinese Conjurer” by Jim Steinmeyer and Hawaiian Cashew Beef. It makes total sense…

    • Nikki Steele

Yum! It looks absolutely delicious! Totally great pairing :D

  • Laura T

Okay, my pair makes absolutely no sense but it’s what I’m actually eating. Killer Queens by Rebecca Chance + Tequila + Twisties. Except, one of those things isn’t actually being consumed by me. Here’s my tweet. Thanks for hosting the challenge!

    Laura @ Music Plus Books

    • Nikki Steele

Hehe, I love the photo! What a fun pairing!

      • Laura T

        Thank you! :D

  • Hannah Harvey

I’m currently on a diet because I’m going to be a bridesmaid in under a year, so my pairings are healthy.
I’m reading Adorkable by Sarra Manning, pairing it with Ryvita’s and low fat cheese, and fresh apple juice (sometimes coffee)

    • Nikki Steele

I definitely understand that! Sounds like a great pairing :D

  • Book Bunny

I’m a mood eater so it varies pretty much. But currently it is Lord of the Flies + hot chocolate + ice cream and cuddling with my bunnies <3 My bunnies are paired with my books because often I read on the floor and the bunnies are extremely interested of my kindle and often try to get me to pat them while I read.

    • Nikki Steele

Awww, maybe the reading companions will have to be the next pairing challenge. My dogs always like to read with me!

      • Book Bunny

My bunnies like to read with me only if they like the book! Currently my miniature lop Sohvi doesn’t like what I’m reading..

        • Nikki Steele

      • Lisa

My little tiny dog tends to try to get in my lap while I am reading.

    • Lisa

I love that book! It was one of the few that were required reading in high school that I have a tendency to go back to.

  • Manno

Food and books! Marvellous idea! I’m sitting here munching on mini carbs, drinking coffee, and I’m reading the Etymologicon! :D

    • Nikki Steele

Yum! I think we’ll have to do a tally at the end and see if coffee or tea reigns supreme in the Pairathon :D

  • Suz Reads

Great topic and 2 of my favorite things – books and food! I’m reading Edge of Oblivion by JT Giessinger and eating ranch flavored crackers and Lindt Excellence squares! I can’t wait to see what other people are pairing!

    • Nikki Steele

      Yum! Thanks for joining!

  • miki

I’m reading the line of Scrimmage by Marion Force and drinking Aquarius red peach ( doctor order to avoid cramp but a sport drink with a sport romance that’s great pairing^^) eating some candies and lindt chocolate

thank you for this fun challenge and great international giveaway

    • Nikki Steele

Ooh that really is a perfect pairing! I’ve seen Lindt chocolate pop up twice now. :)

      • miki

Lindt is a excellent brand it’s for that ( and in my case it was milk chocolate) sorry i couldn’t take a picture i didn’t have a camera ( which is teh reason i’m glad the picture wasn’t mandatory thank you!!!

  • Kaylee E

I’m reading Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde and nomming on sherbert.

p.s you only have to be 18 to drink in Australia and a lot of other countries, so your mandatory 21+ drinking rule probably needs to be adjusted!

    • Nikki Steele

Good point! Fixing now :D Thanks!

  • Lauren Berman

Started a new diet today so my pairing is apple yogurt (0% fat) and listening to Ill Wind on my iPod.

    • Nikki Steele

      Good one!

  • penpalanna

Reading The Holcaust by Gerald Green and munching on some homemade vegan brownies with grape kool-aid.

    • Nikki Steele

Wow — homemade vegan brownies?! Sounds delicious!

  • Jenn (as Jenn flips through…

My book pairing is City of Bones + a mug of hot cocoa. It’s been raining everyday for nearly a week here now, and hot cocoa is just a comforting drink to have during this gloomy weather.

    • Nikki Steele

Aww, lovely. I wish it rained here more just so I could get some more hot chocolate and hot tea in.

  • Sarah Says Read

I shared on Twitter and Instagram :)
I love love love this idea! Probably going to be posting #pairathon pics all week!

    • Nikki Steele

Hooray! You definitely should! Are you going to jump in the chat tonight at 8 PM CST?

  • Louise

My pairing is From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris and Lucozade Orange, because I don’t feel too well today.

    • Nikki Steele

      Oh no, feel better!

  • Ellie Potten

I love to read and eat at the same time, so for this challenge it’s more like ‘WHICH OF MY MANY FOODS DO I PICK?” I actually posted a picture of my muffin ‘n’ coffee Bout of Books breakfast on my blog this morning, and since one of the comments pointed out that the muffin looks like it’s been startled by something from above, that’s got to be a pretty good pairing for a book about a supervolcano eruption raining down noise and ash and rocks on half of America, right?

There you go, that’s my pairing. ASHFALL by Mike Mullin, paired with coffee (for survival energy) and a startled choc chip muffin staring at the sky in horror, as demonstrated in today’s post. :)
Later on, I’ll also be eating chocolate, a donut and something yummy for tea. Y’know, to keep my strength up. Great challenge idea – but no wine for me, I’d be asleep within half an hour!

    • Nikki Steele

Hehehe, I definitely feel the same way. I think that’s a super great pairing! Such a cool photo too :D

Oh definitely understand. I’m going to have to see if coffee or tea is the favorite later tonight. That’s a lot of them, especially at the start!

  • Alex

Shared mine on Twitter and Instagram :)

    • Nikki Steele

Such a cute pairing! I need to get me some breakfast as well :D

  • Angelas Anxious Life

What a great blog… and a great challenge! I am going to take a picture on instagram! Mountain Dew and Every Day by David Levithan… yea I think so!

    My Bout of Books Goals

    • Nikki Steele

Thanks!! Will check it out on Instagram :D

  • Valli

Hot mug of coffee with a whodunit is my favourite pairing.

    • Nikki Steele

Yum! I have a hot mug of tea right now. Hot drinks are so perfect for snuggling up and reading.

  • Melanie

  • Elizabeth Longest

I love this challenge! I’m currently reading This Is What Happy Looks Like, and my happy looks like iced tea and veggie stir fry at the moment :)

    • Nikki Steele

Oh goodness. I would be pretty happy with that as well! :D

  • rinceya

This week I’m munching on some zucchini bread that I made on Sunday afternoon and I’m currently reading Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt.

    • Richelle Steinmetz

This book sounds great! How are you liking it?

      • rinceya

I’m only about 30 pages in at the moment [just got those in before work] but so far I am liking it. I’m itching to get back to it during my lunch break, which is always a good sign :)

    • Nikki Steele

I’ve been meaning to read that one for a while. Hope you enjoy it! And great job with homemade zucchini bread!

  • Ner (Cup of Coffee)

Well, I normally don’t eat or drink while reading but this time I choose City of Bones and a package of cookies – I have no idea the name :S You can see it here:

    XX Ner

    • Nikki Steele

      Hehe, the cookies look yummy!

  • samantha

Some yogurt, Special K Cracker Chips, Dr. Pepper and Shades of Earth by Beth Revis. :)

    • Nikki Steele

      Great pairing and lovely photo!

  • Richelle Steinmetz
    • Nikki Steele

That is perfection, isn’t it? Love the mug!

      • Richelle Steinmetz

        It sure is! Thanks :)

  • Stephanie

I love this pairing idea! Well today I am reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and I am pairing a vanilla rice snack and drinking a cup of chai rooibos with a splash of vanilla creamer. It’s so good! Also I love to read and burn incense so I have Hilda’s house juju dancing in the air creating a peaceful reading environment. *cheers* To a wonderful read-a-thon! :)

Took a picture and posted on my tumblr

    • Nikki Steele

That sounds sooo lovely! I love chai! Enjoy your beautiful day of reading!

  • Bethany

The Catcher in The Rye + Coffee + A stick of Celery (because i am on “Operation fit into my bridesmaid dress”)

    • Nikki Steele

Oh man. I just see the word “celery” and know a diet is coming after. :D

    • Nikki Steele

      Love ginger ale! Great pairing!

  • Kristin T.

My read and drink pairing: The Comfort of Lies and a Chai Latte.

    • Nikki Steele

      Great! Thanks for joining!

  • Tanya @ Read. Run. Study.

If I eat while reading, I try to keep to non-messy snacks. Currently, I’m reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with a bowl of pretzels and gummy bears next to me. Takes me back to childhood.

    • Nikki Steele

Oh good point. I should have put together some pairing suggestions for keeping it clean :D

  • Caitlyn Santi

I don’t usually eat or drink while I’m reading! But right now I’m reading Oregon Outback by Elizabeth Goddard and eating a chocolate fudge pop tart! :-)

    • Nikki Steele

      Hehe I love it!

  • Coral Russell

Awesome challenge! My book pairing is What Matters Most by Bette Lee Crosby with a snack – olive tampanade hummus with bagel chips.

  • Shan

I am currently reading “Emancipation Day” by Wayne Grady and drinking tea (of course) in the mug I bought at The King Center in Atlanta. Very fitting.

    • Nikki Steele

Tea is always necessary for good reading :D

  • Lisa

I don’t have a camera, so I have to do this all comment like. But today, it Is coffee and animal crackers while reading City of Bones. I am not sure why, but it seemed fitting that I eat animal crackers while I read this book!

    • Nikki Steele

      So cute! I love it!

      • Lisa

Irony is now as I get further into the book, it feels even more appropriate!

  • Christina

Fruits Basket vol. 10, Samuel Adams Porch Rocker, ham & cheese sandwich, and strawberry banana yogurt YUM!

    • Nikki Steele

Now that sounds like my kind of lunch!

      • Christina

It was soooo good, hahaha! Sadly it was my last Porch Rocker so I’m definitely going to have to run to the liquor store before it’s discontinued for the summer :(

  • Gina, a book dragon

Reading The Third Gate by Lincoln Child while drinking a Diet Coke and eating black licorice. The licorice is a treat, the diet coke is less so.

    • Nikki Steele

      So fun!

  • Hannah Jocks
    • Nikki Steele

I loved that one! Thanks for joining!

  • francinesoleil

my pairing: pretty much coffee with everything I chose Cupcake though because I love coffee and sweets. Also, Cyd Charisse, the main character is addicted to coffee and even worked as a barista so I crave coffee when I read about her.

    • Nikki Steele

SO CUTE! Love the pairing :D

  • Amber Hodges

I’m not much of a wine drinker, so my go to drink is usually milk. As I’m sitting here getting ready to read, I have a glass a chocolate milk and my book :) to me it is so comforting to have a glass of milk! I also ALWAYS have my little chihuahua, Moose, next to me when I read! I need him more than I need the milk to be comfy!

    Amber @Paradise of Pages

    • Nikki Steele

OMG! My Moose is right next to me when I read too! He’s certainly not a chihuahua though :D

Fantastic pairing — I love chocolate milk!

  • Millie Walker

I am reading The Book Thief eating maltesers and drinking fantastic :)

    • Nikki Steele

      YUM! Thanks for joining!

  • NovaReylin

It’s just now noon so I was drinking coffee but I’m about to switch to chicken soup and read Amends, A Love Story. Hoping the chicken soup will kill this summer cold!

    • Nikki Steele

Oh no! Another cold. We have three Bouters battling one.

      • NovaReylin

Ack!!! At least I can read when my head isn’t aching, but man… when it is! Whew!

  • Heather Mcwilliams

Reading DaVinci Code with a fabulous (and very large) glass of Apothic Red Wine.

    • Nikki Steele

      Ooh, that’s a fun one!

  • Kim Ukura

Fun challenge! I think my pairing when I get home from work will be Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed with some cold medicine and chamomile tea (although I wish I could be pairing with some wine or good hard cider).

    • Nikki Steele

I’ve heard so many lovely things about Tiny Beautiful Things. Hope you enjoy!

Sad to hear you’re still sick though :( I know there’s somebody else on the board battling a cold. Just means that you both get warm tea, right?

  • Sharon @ The Book Barbies

What a fun idea! Drinks, food, and books: I’m a fan of ALL THESE THINGS.

My pairing of the afternoon is sweet tea and The Scorpio Races. :) I mentioned it here on Twitter, as well as Instagram.

    • Nikki Steele

Awesome! Another vote for sweet tea!

  • Mariana_BookTravels

It’s a little cold in my country so hot chocolate with any book, plus some dark chocolates for dessert. Romance and chocolate are givens. #Pairathon

    • Nikki Steele

All the yums!! You have to eat some chocolate with a romance novel.

  • Bemused Bookworm

Haha, Wow. I never actually thought about this…but i always drink sweet tea when i read. I sort keep my eyes on the words and *slowly* maneuver the cup to my lips. My eyes like never leave the page…which is probably bad because i usually use the kindle cloud reader and a spill would wreak havoc on my chromebook. Haha, something to think about i guess. :) Thanks for the challenge.

    • Nikki Steele

Haha, we should definitely coin it “the maneuver”! I definitely know what you mean. I’ve also been getting a lot of sweet tea votes today.

  • Rubi A

My pairing is TFIOS by John Green, with some flying saucers. –

    • Nikki Steele

      Hehe, love it!

  • stormi34

I guess I am sort of bland compared to some of these I have read but I am just drinking water and reading Spies and Prejudice. Though soon I am going to have to trade that book with my Crime Scene Investigation I Chapter One as today is the first day of classes..ugh. :(

    • Nikki Steele

Haha, you’re just on the hydration train! That’s always good.

o.O At least you’ll be the most versed in the subject in the Bout of Books camp. I’m having to take some time out of fun reading for businessy reading as well. It’s good to strike a balance.

  • Rosemary Belmont

I’m reading City of Bones on my Kindle but unfortunately can’t pair it with much as I recently was very sick. I am taking antibiotics and can’t keep anything down. :(

    • Nikki Steele

      Awww. Hope you feel better!

  • Super Librarian

I forgot to snap a picture this morning, but I paired Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell with coffee with sugar & vanilla-caramel creamer. In the book, Levi works at Starbucks and all the talk of coffee made me crave it. :)

    • Nikki Steele

      That’s a super awesome pairing! Now I’m craving a Starbucks run :D

  • Natalie

I love this challenge – I have a new blog where I often pair recipes with my book reviews! Today I’m enjoying Iced by Karen Moning with a cup of really sweet tea and a cuddly kitten. Books are always better when a cat is curled up on your feet.

    • Nikki Steele

That’s a great pairing! (Especially with a snuggly kitten). What’s the name of your blog?

      • Natalie

        Paperbacks and Pastries

  • Abbi Hart

I’m reading Mistaken Bride by Renee Ryan, drinking Sweet Tea and munching on toast since I forgot to eat lunch and dinner is not too far away! (Sorry for the sub-par kinda messy photo!) gatorade653(at)gmail(dot)com

      • Jaz

      • Nikki Steele

        FOR SHAME Jennifer ;)

I’m totally going to do a coffee/tea battle tonight on the Twitter chat. Only one will be victorious. Yum — chicken taco salads! Can you send please? kthanx.

  • Fi @ Bookish Outsider

  • Janina

I’m currently reading Hidden Wings by Cameo Renae on my kindle. Had to stop and get some food because I was hungry. And now I’m chowing down on some Panera and reading again :)

    • Nikki Steele

    • Nikki Steele

I love it! Are you joining in the Twitter drinking chat at 8 PM CST?

      • Samantha Tule

Oh yeah I’ll be there. Although that’s a little close to bedtime for another glass of wine, so I will probably switch over to tea.

  • UnabridgedBookshelf

Too early for drinking today but I need something to quench the hotness that is Jean Lafitte so I am pairing Lemon Ice Tea with Elysian Fields

    • Nikki Steele

Oh goodness, the vapors! *fans self*

Oh yum! Enjoy your book :D

  • Samantha (aka ColdTeaAndCrumbs

Gota to start work early tomorrow and had such an enjoyable day that there was only one beverage of choice for a British women :-) Cup of Tea. Love this challenge. Here’s my photo for #Pairathon

    • Nikki Steele

Heheh tea is a popular choice!

  • Lewis

Because this book is my cup of tea

    • Nikki Steele

I see what you did there. :D

  • TFrances @ Ms. Buff’s Blog

Since I am currently pregnant, I can’t pair my lovely books with any alcoholic beverage… Although if I could, there are some beautiful bottles of wine calling my name from our bar. Instead, I went with nachos and cranberry raspberry flavored carbonated water. What can I say? It was lunchtime and I was craving some guac and chips. And then I added salsa, cheese, and beans and called it a meal. Yummy! Later tonight I’m thinking a nice hot cup of chai tea and and some chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

    • Nikki Steele

Nachos are always the most balanced of meals! Sounds like a great day of pairing lined up!

  • WhiteLady3

I’m reading a Portuguese book set during the Discoveries so every now and then, while reading about the deplorable conditions in which the sailors lived, with no food and stale water, I find myself munching on cookies and drinking ice tea. :D Today it was like this:

    • Nikki Steele

      Haha cute!

  • Micah Anderson

I’m currently reading City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare and it is the fifth book in The Mortal Instruments series. I absolutely love this series so I decided to pair it with my favourite Thorntons chocolate selection box. They are just so yummy!
My favourite series with my favourite chocolates! Perfection is an understatement!:D

    • Nikki Steele

I love it! Chocolate is always a great pairing!

  • Elizabeth

    Here’s my pairing:

A book with Chamomile tea and some crackers. Though a glass of Barefoot Pink Mascato is always good, too!

    • Nikki Steele

Mmm chamomile. It’s one of my faves.

  • Landslide

I’m eating chocolate filled cookies and drinking iced tea while reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Only two cookies cause I’m dieting :(

    • Nikki Steele

      :D A great double pairing!

  • JaimeLH

Tonight I’m reading The Bone Season and pairing it with some strawberries and nutella. Also a glass of cabernet sauvignon. Great challenge, thanks for hosting it :)

    • Nikki Steele

Wow. Now this is what I’m talking about!

  • Kate -Too Read or Not Too Read

I tend not to eat when I read, however when I do want a snack, it tends to mesh with what I’m reading. The western/frontier set books, it’s usually something simple like crackers and milk. Right now, I’m reading Tattler’s Branch by Jan Watson. It’s borders a big city and is set in a mining town in 1911. So, I’m drinking water or grape juice and having baby bell cheese.

    Fun challenge! Thanks for hosting!

    • Nikki Steele

      Yum! Thanks for joining!

  • Jasprit

This is another brilliant challenge Nikki, I always have to have a cup of tea when I’m reading. You can find my photo for this challenge here:

    • Nikki Steele

Great photo! Thanks for joining the challenge!

  • Love at First Book

Woo hoo! Just posted my #pairathon picture on Instagram and Twitter! I’ll hopefully be around for the chat tonight, depending on what time dinner is ready! :)

    • Nikki Steele

Woot! Hope to see you there!

  • p7-books

unhealthy, but my favourite snack while reading would be… chips! With
dip, preferably. Or perhaps a chocolatey snack… As for drinks, you’ll
probably find me drinking some coffee-related drink. Or tea. (With
milk.) Or a cup of milk with chocolate powder mixed in it.

    • Nikki Steele

Salsa is my weakness. And guacamole. And french onion dip. Yeah… maybe chips are just my weakness. Thanks for joining!

  • Samantha

    Some corn chowder to go with a Sookie Stackhouse book! Actually wanted to make hoe cakes, but this was what I had ^_^;

    • Nikki Steele

      That looks amazing!

      • Samantha

Aww, thanks! Had peppers (hot and sweet) and sour cream. Next time I might add bacon! :D Fun challenge!

  • Amy @ bookgoonie

I shared thT I’m drinking sangria & eating boiled eggs & reading Jane Eyre. It is so sad. It is my fast day. 500 calories, but I don’t count my coffee or alcohololic therapy if needed. Great diet? Right?!? But I wish like a crazy woman I was polishing off my pita chips & hatch chili hummus.

    Amy @ bookgoonie

    • Nikki Steele

Haha dang diet days! Oh yeah, I’m definitely following the #pairathon hashtag as well. Thanks for joining!

  • Ben Alderson

I LOVE MY COFFEE! so i had to have a wonderful iced caramel latte with a pomogrante froyo ! with fruit and marsh mellow sauce! it was AMAZING – link to twitter post :)

    • Nikki Steele

      That sounds immense! Great pairing!

  • Katie @ Doing Dewey

With reading on and off all day, I’ve also been pairing my book with a variety of things. One of my favorites was relaxing this morning while eating muffins before going to work :)

    • Nikki Steele

Lovely! I adore taking some time to read in the morning.

      • Katie @ Doing Dewey

I would just like to stop back in and acknowledge that you’re pretty much a superwoman for being able to keep up with responding to all these comments! Thanks for taking the time to host a challenge :)

        • Nikki Steele

Aww thanks! Just trying to jump in every few hours to keep up! You all are quite the pairers!

  • Alicia Jespersen

I’m enjoying some great books with some tasty candy! #PairAThon!!!

    • Nikki Steele

      YUM Sour Skittles.

      • Alicia Jespersen

Yea, they were so yummy! I also had a extra thick Kit Kat :D

  • Janie

Not snacking on anything currently, although I may work on some coffee almonds later, but I have my raspberry lemonade flavored water and my Kindle in hand:

    • Nikki Steele

That works! (Coffee almonds sound amazing though)

      • Janie

They are!! I found them in the beer aisle at the store and I’m hooked. I sent my husband some (he’s deployed) and he and like 3 other soldiers want me to send more LOL. The Mocha are my absolute favorite.

  • Cait

Here’s what i had for breakfast and lunch today while reading The Great Gatsby.

    • Nikki Steele

      Smart idea with the soup!

  • Elaina

Sweet Tea and World War Z!

    • Nikki Steele

Another sweet tea! There’s SO much out there :D

  • Jessica

I’m starting All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terill, and decided to grab a pear cider to go with :). Delicious way to end a Monday, no?

    • Nikki Steele

      Heck yes!

  • Sarah

As I’m British, you can’t bet the classic tea and biscuits whilst reading. You’ve got to keep the stereotypes alive!

    • Nikki Steele

I wouldn’t expect any less. My favorite Brits are the one who introduced me to the finer sides of tea and biscuits. Absolutely love them!

  • Ning @ DABR

Hmm I try not to eat while reading because I’ll never stop, but I love having chai tea or thai tea when I’m reading, especially in the winter when I can snuggle under a blanket and just read for hours on end!

    • Nikki Steele

      I know, isn’t that lovely?!

  • Catherine Coffman

    Pairing is caring!!!! So TRUE!

    • Nikki Steele

  • Jessica Bolton

People tend to spill or drip stuff on their books so I like to play it safe. I eat popcorn and drink water while I read.

    • Nikki Steele

Hehehe, there is that. Maybe long sippy straws? ;)

  • Donna @ The Happy Booker

My Nook and an ice-cold glass of southern sweet tea for me!

    • Nikki Steele

Another sweet tea!! You guys are ruling the board :D

  • Stephanie @ Inspiring Insomnia

I am currently reading The Crown of Embers with a nice, cold glass of Deer Park spring water. This is probably the most boring answer on here. I also have not eaten dinner yet, and seeing all of these lovely pics is making me HOOONGRAY!

    • Nikki Steele

      Hehehe. Hydration is NEVER boring.

  • heydor

I’m reading Go, Mutants! by Larry Doyle and drinking Le Freak by Green Flash Brewing Company. The main character, J!m, is the son of two different species of alien so the beer which is a mix of two styles (Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA) is a good match. Also, J!m is a high school student going through all of the normal angsty teenage stuff in addition to being an outcast because people think that his dad tried to destroy humanity. This beer is bitter just like him!

    • Nikki Steele

Oh man. I’m in love with this answer (one of the first beer ones) and this view! Where are you? Can I come awkwardly visit? Haha.

      • heydor

Haha thanks! I am in San Diego so it is usually pretty nice out here. Thanks for hosting the challenge too. This was a fun one!

  • Katie Gallagher

Sutter Homes Moscato & Trick or Treat Murder by Leslie Meier. Fun stuff! :)

    • Nikki Steele

      Love it!

  • Kaylene Miller

My #pairathon twitter post from earlier. I’ve moved on from my delicious mango/ginger ale drink to food. Now my reading is paired up with some M&Ms. :)

    • Nikki Steele

You are pairing like a BOSS!

  • Shannon @ River City Reading

Lookaway, Lookaway and Sweet Tea Bourbon :)

    • Nikki Steele

  • Kirsten Wright

Here’s a link to my tweet.

In my book (Hard Run by Tsugumi Ohba) the main character Light hides his mini tv in a bag of BBQ chips…thus it made me hungry for BBQ chips! mmm

    • Nikki Steele

Hehe. I love when those natural ones happen!

  • Lori

Gah! I have such a boring pairing! This morning I was drinking coffee while reading Brave New World and now that it’s evening I’m drinking water. I promise it’s not you and this challenge, though, I’m always this boring!

    • Nikki Steele

Haha. As I’ve said to many pairers before, hydration is never boring. Great pairings!

  • Christina

Sadly, I happen to have basically no alcohol at the moment, so I couldn’t post a cute wine-‘n’-books pic. But I did enjoy a tall glass of water and some pasta with butter and cheese while I read The Collaborator of Bethlehem by Matt Beynon Rees!

    – Christina @ You Book Me All Night Long

    • Nikki Steele

You had me at cheese. And butter. And your blog name. *swoon*

      • Christina

Haha, it’s total comfort food for me…pasta with butter was one of the only things I’d eat as a kid! And thanks for the blog name compliment! :)

  • MelissaSwenson

Coffee goes great with books! And I’m trying to drink more water too

    • Nikki Steele

      Good ones!

  • amandapearl2

I love drinking hot chocolate before bed, and I thought it would be extra appropriate since the book I’m reading is semi-erotica and chocolate is supposed to be an aphrodisiac lol. I’m reading Assassins in Love by Kris DeLake for the vaginal fantasy book club (hosted by Felicia Day on her youtube channel geek and sundry

    Here’s my twitter link:

    • Nikki Steele

I absolutely love it! Checking out now!

  • Jenna

Love this one!! I paired sushi, seaweed salad, pinot, and The Bookstore by Deborah Meyler

    And instagramed here:

    • Nikki Steele

I LOVE it. This is so fancy!

  • Daniela

While tea & reading go perfectly together, I’m finishing my current read and indulging in a poptart! Here’s the image I posted:

    • Nikki Steele

You’re like the 4th pop tart! I didn’t know they were such a popular pairing!

      • Daniela

Really?! I’m weirdly happy to hear that! I thought pairing a poptart and a book would be boring.

        • Nikki Steele

I was surprised at first, but I’ve seen loads of them! Not boring at all. Edgy :D

  • Brooke @ i blog 4 books
    • Nikki Steele

Oh goodness, my Texas husband is the same. Only Dr. Pepper he’ll drink.

  • Kendra

Chai and my first graphic novel — Nancy Drew!

    • Nikki Steele

  • Tanya M

Today I am pairing “Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie” which homemade chocolate chip cookie cake I made for my Superhubby’s birthday and a tall glass of milk. I am resisting the urge for wine as it’s been a tough day, too much work and not enough reading!

I’m drinking diet 7-Up while reading Andersen’s Fairy Tales. For good measure, I’m munching on mixed nuts too. :-)

How fun that you’re reading Andersen’s Fairy Tales!

      • Bev@My Reader’s Block

All done! First book down for the read-a-thon.

    • Nikki Steele

You certainly should! The Pairathon doesn’t stop after the first day! :D

  • alibrarianslibrary

Today, I paired Hot Bedtime Tea (minty and soothing) with some Publix Fruit salad while I was reading Heartsick by Chelsea Cain. Surprisingly, hot bedtime tea really matches the serial killer’s personality TOO CLOSELY. It’s creepy! haha =)

    • Nikki Steele

Hahah, lovely how those pairings “creep” up!

  • Samantha

I paired City of Ashes with some pizza! Here is my twitter link to the picture:

    • Nikki Steele

      Yum — great one!

  • Kaelyn H

I’m enjoying a nice cold glass of iced tea (you can’t go wrong with tea) along with reading Killer by Sara Shepard.

    • Nikki Steele

There is so much iced tea on the board today! Thanks for joining!

  • Kristen H.

Was feeling like soda today, so paired it with my fave – diet Hansen’s Root Beer. :)

    • Nikki Steele

      Oooh good one!

  • Stephanie Helgeson

I’m drinking tea while reading Elizabeth Peters. I don’t think I could possibly read Elizabeth Peters without drinking tea, though someday I should try drinking a whisky and soda while reading one of her Amelia Peabody novels.

    • Nikki Steele

Hehehe there are just certain authors that go with tea, aren’t there?
